FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – San Antonio, TX, 18 Aug 2026
San Antonio’s home-grown indie film makers will be screening their short films on the silver screen this year on August 19, 2026 at 7pm, as the local chapter of the 48 Hour Film Project competition has secured the City Base Cinemas for their annual event.
Every year, fanatical, naïve, and brave film makers, join together in an ‘iron chef’ style competition, for film. They all must receive their required genre, lines, props, at the same kick-off event, and within 48 hours, write a script, shoot a short film, edit the film, and upload it to the competition website. Creating a film under normal circumstances is tough, but for these brave few, they also did it within 48 hours, for the most part. Even the teams that submitted a film just beyond the deadline will have their films screened at the collective film premiere.
All films are eligible to win an audience choice award. Only the films submitted as compliant to the rules and deadline are judged by neutral parties from another region for other award categories.
Tickets are on sale now and proceeds help to cover the costs of running the competition, which is a labor of love by the organizer, Phillip Nelson.
“It takes a lot of courage to enter this competition. You don’t know what genre or props will be required. You don’t know if your team will show up. You don’t know if you can submit that film on time and you don’t know how the audience will react to your film. I hope all San Antonians can come out here and show their support for their neighbors, who are budding film makers. Film brings us all joy, and these film makers need all the encouragement they can get to keep spending their nights and weekends creating more San Antonio-based films for us to watch,” said Sanchez, a director of one of this year’s films.
Come out and watch 18 short films as they premiere to the public.
Additionally, guests can mix and mingle with the actors and directors from the films. This is your chance to meet local stars, and if you are wanting to dip your toes into acting, is a great place to make connections with the film makers of San Antonio.
